  1. Congratulations on your great find! Isn't it wonderful when you get a Hermes 3000 at a good price and open it to find it turns out to be a script machine? You've got all the neat extras too.

I was very pleasantly surprised at my last Hermes 3000 find when I put it on the workbench to test before doing anything with it, and I found it to be a script machine.

For me I think it was Hermes way of telling me not to use the machine for a parts machine.

  2. I think you're right. I was kinda miffed about how I missed that at the shop. But I just felt compelled to grab this machine anyway. At $18, I couldn't really go wrong anyway. And I was so very excited to find the script typeface under the hood. One of my best finds to date I think.

And the first time I've actually found a machine at the Thrift shop!

  3. That's a very cool coincidence with my own Hermes 3000 day post. I love finding the time capsule stuff inside – and good paper!.
We'll expect to see more script posts.

  4. Good thing the Universe stepped in to make sure you came home with that wonderful typewriter!

This script typeface is my new favorite. I like all script fonts, but the one on your Hermes 3000 is incredibly clear and elegant. Great score!

  5. For sure. It didn't seem allot good at first, but I got some lube between the bearings on the rails, and cleaned out some gunk – and it started typing wonderfully.
As for my little one-liner.. I originally considered using a very crass Australianism, but I changed my mind and come up with that as a substitute.

  6. I got a bit of a chuckle when I saw yours. You posted about the same time as me, but for some reason I couldn't reply to your post on your page. It keeps coming up with a blank reply square (no buttons). I might give it a try now.

I love finding this kind of stuff. It is wonderful when you see little pieces of people's lives. And for sure… I'll have to do some more blogging with it!

  7. I can't tell you how many times that hand of mine has gotten stuck in exactly the same way. Something overrides the logic center of my brain via my wallet, and… presto… one more machine on the shelf. I'm tickled to see such a great find come from such a terrible affliction.

  8. Thank you for sharing this interesting and inspiring piece on the Hermes 3000 that refused to let go of you. Reading it made me smile.

I'm not new to typewriting but am definitely a newbie in the Typewriter Collectors' world, and I hope to get as lucky as you did…someday soon. Love the font on your Hermes, by the way 🙂
